Bumble Bee's Flight to New Heights

I am a past DT member of Scrapbook Challenges, and I have been a member of the group since the early Myspace days. I find Pamela's sketches to be a wonderful way to spur my creativity! They ROCK and so does she! As a matter of fact, it was one of her sketches that helped me get back into scrapping after a seven year break! A dear friend also played a huge role, but when I saw Sketch Number 6 I knew exactly what photos I needed to scrap for that sketch and at that point I couldn't get the page scrapped fast enough! It felt wonderful to be scrapping again and I am so grateful to have found Pamela and Scrapbook Challenges at just the perfect time! (I am having trouble locating the pic of that layout, but I will dig out the layout and take another and add it to this post soon.)

I've come to admire and appreciate Pamela, and am very grateful that she gave me the chance to be a member of the SCDT and has always been so encouraging to me as I strive to improve my skills as a scrapbooker. I consider her a friend and a mentor.

I am happy to know that the group will continue under Brynn's leadership! She is also a very talented scrapper and a wonderful leader and I wish her well in her new role! I know she will do a fantastic job and will continue to help keep Scrapbook Challenges the warm, supportive, friendly and creative group that it has always been.

I had picked sketch #2 for my layout, but then discovered it had also been picked by a couple others in the blog hop, and so spur of the moment I decided to go back to my SC roots and use Sketch #6 instead....yes, that same Pamela sketch that inspired me to get back to scrapping! I had planned to do my layout last weekend at a crop I was attending, but they gave us a super awesome make and take and it took up the majority of the time I had intended to work on projects I'd taken....being as it is Mother's Day on Sunday we have been busy, busy, busy in the floral shop, but I will get this finished and posted asap. It soooo sums up where I'm at right now in my life...lots of changes and every one of them propelling me out of my comfort zone! Good to be reminded that this is just the beginning of 'life' - new life -- and, who knows, perhaps I'll reach even higher in my creative pursuits! I'm betting on it....

I am one of those who are retiring, after two terms on the team. I have loved being on the team, but life dictates that it is time for me to move on to other ventures for awhile. Scrapbook Challenges NSD Blog Hop!!!

Well, friends and followers, I've been neglecting my blog for far too long, and a very special event has me posting today!

A little about me: I am a wife, a mom to two boys (well, okay, I guess technically they are 'men' now, but they will always be my 'boys' LOL). Scrapbooking is such a blessing in my life...it gives me the opportunity to express my love for my family and to share my perspective of the events of our lives. I LOVE knowing that I am documenting small and big moments in our lives to be enjoyed for years to come...even when I am no longer here to tell the stories, my scrapbooks will be here to tell them again and again. I LOVE that! And I thoroughly enjoy the creative aspect of scrapbooking! When I get going the hours just melt away...it has happened more than once that I'll be going like gangbusters and suddenly look at the clock and realize it is 4 in the morning! I am sure many of you can relate! :D

What is a Scrapbook Diva?

In a blog contest (see post below this one) we were asked to define "Scrapbook Diva".

This is my definition:

A Scrap Diva is a modern day goddess! As such, she is a creator. She creates page after page preserving memories and life events for herself and her loved ones. She is successful at documenting big and small moments, good and bad times, and everything in between.

No self-respecting Scrap Diva could call herself that without the occasional bit of glamor...which can always be found in sweet and unexpected ways on the pages of her Books of Life!

I will be doing a layout based on this soon...so be watching. :)

2010 Scrappy Flight Plan

hehehehe -- well, really they are goals...but sticking with the theme of my blog, thought I'd give them a fitting name, therefore, "flight plan". :)

I just posted this in my friend Icing's myspace group and thought it would be a good idea to post them here, too:

My most basic goal is one layout a week. Anything above and beyond that will be gravy!

However, I’d also like to have those layouts look more ’polished’....I’m not really sure that is the right word, but it’s the only one I can think of that comes close. What I want is for my layouts to look more finished, to have more depth and texture and...and whatever it is that I am seeing is lacking, but haven’t been able to name or even identify yet. Whatever it is, I know that it's something I have to reach inside and find...I've been practicing and playing with techniques for awhile now, but now it's time to reach inside and 'make it mine'!

I want to find and develop ’my style’ more fully.

Such a difficult goal to articulate and possibly to accomplish, but that’s probably my biggest scrapping goal for the year.

My name is Debi Wallace, and I am one of the newest members of the Scrapbook Challenges Design Team. I am excited about being selected and looking forward to the experience and to working with so many wonderfully talented women!

I was introduced to scrapping in the mid-90s. As my children got older and more active, I drifted away from scrapping for a number of years. Now that my children are older, driving and able to get themselves to their activities, I once again have time to scrap! Whoot! I've been back at it for about 3 years now and it is such an integral part of my life, I can't imagine ever NOT scrapping.

My style tends to be clean and simple, but I do enjoy exploring new techniques and playing with new products.

Here is an example of my work -- a layout based on one of Pamela's awesome sketches!

Now, a bit about my own blog! Back in April I decided I wanted to devote this blog to my creative pursuits, which at the moment primarily involves scrapbooking. In preparation for this, I deleted all other posts, so I'd have a nice, clean start. Then my MIL moved in with us in late April. While my attention turned to other things my poor little blog suffered from lack of attention.

One of my goals for 2010 is to come back to blogging and to continue to improve my blogging skills as I share my scrappy and creative projects.

Happy 2010 and may all of our personal goals be met!

Edited 4/5/09 -- This was originally created for a challenge in the "Big Blog Challenge" hosted on scrapbook.com This was an awesome challenge to help us learn the ropes of using Blogger and simply having a blog. I don't know if anyone is still hosting it, but if you've ever wanted a blog, but were afraid to begin then I recommend checking out the forums at scrapbook.com to see if you can find the challenge.

I have since deleted all the other posts made during the challenge. They were fun, but kind of random and I really want to keep this blog about my creative pursuits, primarily scrapbookingl Now on with this post as it was originally written:

Today's challenge is to make and post an ATC -- Artist Trading Card. Well, it isn't particularly 'artistic' and I have no idea what I'll do with it -- add it to my embellishments stash and use it on a card or layout at some point, I suppose.

I'll probably make more ATC's as they go together pretty quickly and I'd really like to play with the idea a bit more and see how creative I can get using different materials and supplies.
